Hear My Sorrow: The Diary of Angela Denoto, a Shirtwaist Worker, New York City, 1909 by Deborah Hopkinson (Due out in October 2004)
Forced to drop out of school at the age of fourteen to help support her family, Angela, an Italian immigrant, works long hours for low wages in a garment factory, and becomes a participant in the shirtwaist worker strikes of 1909.

I Walk in Dread: The Diary of Deliverance Trembley, Witness to the Salem Witch Trials by Lisa Rowe Fraustino (Due out in October 2004)
Twelve-year-old Deliverance Trembley writes in her diary about the fears and doubts that arise during the 1692 witch hunt and trials in her community of Salem Village, Massachusetts, especially when her pious friend, Goody Corey, is condemned as a witch.

Catherine the Great: Germany, 1740s by Kristiana Gregory (Due out in October 2005)
Based on the life of Catherine the Great, a German princess known in her childhood as Sophie, who lived from 1729-1796 and who became Empress of Russia in 1762, after her husband, the Emperor, was overthrown so that she could take his place. Will likely be set in Germany around 1742.

When Freedom Comes: Hope's Revolutionary War Diary, Book Three by Kristiana Gregory (Due out in April 2004)
In her diary, eleven-year-old Hope writes about her life in 1778 Philadelphia as British Redcoats take over her family's house, her father fights with the Continental Army at Valley Forge, and she gains a new friend and new baby sister.
Hope describes the realities of life in Pennsylvania as she is caught up in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Though the emerging nation's future is still uncertain, Hope remains optimistic and brave.

An American Spring: Sofia's Immigrant Diary, Book Three by Kathryn Lasky (Due out in April 2004)
In 1903, Maureen, originally from Ireland, comes to Bostom to live with her old friend Sofia and her Italian American family, where the two girls share fifth grade class and various adventures.
Sofia continues to chronicle life in her new home, the North End of Boston, as her best friend Maureen comes to live with her, and her parents open their own store. Sofia describes the daily hardships and joys that she meets as a new American.
